
Bioplastics are derived from renewable resources, biodegradable, or both. Materials derived from renewable resources and biodegradable polymers are bioplastics, such as starch blends, polybutylene terephthalate, polylactic acid, and PBS. In multilayer film technology, two or more materials with specific and complementary properties are combined to enhance the overall performance of the bioplastic. These materials are competitive in flexible and rigid packaging while minimizing the negative impact of traditional petroleum-based plastics.
In food service packaging, compostable multilayer films provide excellent protection for fresh produce and dry foods. End-use packaging products made from this material can be easily printed using traditional and digital printing techniques. Compostable multilayer films enable food service providers to move away from traditional packaging and be at the forefront of creating a circular economy.
Upon disposal, the compostable bioplastic films and bags biodegrade into CO2, water & biomass within max 180 days under composting conditions. Biomass is a compost/ fertiliser that enhances the fertility of soil.
