
Circular RNA (circRNA) is a type of single-stranded RNA molecule with a special structure. It has no 5' cap structure and no 3' ployA tail. It forms a circular structure with covalent bonds and lacks free ends, so it is not easily degraded by nuclease exonucleases. CircRNA can be divided into two types: endogenous circRNA and exogenous circRNA. Endogenous circRNA: It has the characteristics of being abundant in eukaryotes, evolutionarily conservative, tissue-specifically expressed, highly stable, and can accumulate in neural tissues with aging. Exogenous circRNA: It is first transcribed into linear mRNA in vitro, and then the linear mRNA is cyclized using different cyclization strategies. Compared with linear mRNA, circRNA synthesized in vitro has the advantages of longer half-life and higher protein expression efficiency.
