

Total Focusing Method, or TFM for short, is an ultrasonic nondestructive testing technology that focuses multiple sets of collected ultrasonic transceiver signals on each cell in the imaging area to achieve imaging. It is a new technology developed on the basis of phased array ultrasonic testing (PAUT) technology. In phased array ultrasonic testing, multiple piezoelectric chips inside the probe independently transmit and receive ultrasonic waves to form a wavefront. The deflection and focusing of the sound beam are adjusted by controlling the excitation order and delay of the piezoelectric chips. The direction of the wavefront is similar to that of the sound beam of conventional ultrasound, and the number of focal points is limited. The imaging quality is high only near the focal points. Total Focusing Imaging sequentially excites multiple piezoelectric chips to form spherical waves. The sound beam propagates in multiple directions, forming a large number of focal points in a specified area, and the imaging quality is higher.
