Railway track axle counter is a railway signal safety device that detects whether a section of railway track is occupied by a train by counting the axles of trains entering and leaving the section of railway track. An axle counter generally consists of a wheel sensor (one between two points of the railway track) and an axle counter processor (used to detect railway vehicle axle signals and monitor equipment failures).
